Gadget Show Filming

It’s not often you get an opportunity to go and spend a few hours watching the filming of a television show like The Gadget Show.  So when an invitation appeared on twitter a couple of weeks ago I was quick to sign off in the hope my boss would let me have the day off.  Thankfully he did let me have the day off, and so yesterday I drove to Birmingham so see Jason and Ortis take part in one of the famous Gadget Show challenges.

I’m obviously going to give anything away, apart from to say that the challenge was all about robots (like the sort from Robot Wars/Robo Challenge) – with Jason and Ortis having to fight.  I took loads of photos but really they tell the story of the day so apart from these few here, I’m not going to upload them until the episode has aired (apparently in about four weeks).

The day was brilliant. Lots of standing and waiting but that was the nature of what was going on, and the nature of the robots!  Jason assured us that there was no glamour in television presenting and it was always mostly waiting, but it was great to be a part of it anyway.  It was a really informal atmosphere and they were happy for us to wander around and watch everything that was going on, speak to the robot guys, the presenters and production crew, and even eat the crew’s crisps 🙂  

I’m really glad I made the effort to go and was able to stay until the end – it would have been a shame to miss out on the outcome of the challenge.  But of course my lips are sealed… you’ll just have to watch.  During the fights I’m stood right behind the real robot guys (as opposed to Jason and Ortis – sorry!!) so you never know, I might even get my face on telly… hmmmm!

And of course, it’s another thing ticked off my list of “Things to Do” so I’m happy!
