Fundraising Ideas

posted in: Bucket List | 5

I’m in the process of doing an update to my Things to Do list following a fantastic 2010 of ticking things off and adding new things on (blog update to come in a few days on that one).  But it got me thinking… each year I try and do a big charity fundraising activity… what am I going to do this year?

I mean, in 2010 I did a tandem skydive to raise money for RNIB… see my blog here.

And in 2009 I rode a Harley Davidson from John O Groats to Land’s End for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Salvation Army… and dedicated a whole blog to that one (my first taste of blogging!).

I’ve done other stuff too, smaller things, little challenges, runs, cycle rides, various things.

I’ve always fancied one of those treks, but they require thousands in sponsorship and months even years to organise.  Running a marathon is also on Things to Do list already, but I’m not ready for that.  What I want is something that would be a personal challenge, but do-able, and would raise a fair bit for a worthwhile cause.

So the question is – what am I going to do as my big fundraiser for 2011?  And who should I raise money for?!  I’m asking for your ideas! Comments below please.

How about a long cycle ride, either somewhere in UK (London-Edinburgh) or something like London to Paris, Nice, Geneva?

Or a big hill walk/hike like the three peaks, coast to coast or that challenge where you run/walk etc over 24 hours (can’t remember the name of it – Fell racing or something).

Maybe a half marathon rather than a full one?

Solo skydive or abseiling down a v large building?

Or take a holiday to South Africa and do the world’s largest bungee jump (800 feet)!

The Children’s Trust is a great charity to support, they have loads of activities you can get involved in and can advise you on personal fundraiser activities. Angie on Twitter would be happy to help @Childrens_Trust or visit http://www.childrenstrust.org.uk

Well done you for planning something :0)

How about something else geographical to “conquer”. A friend of mine has always wanted to walk Hadrians wall (about 70 miles/3 days walk) or you could look at walking/cycling the south downs way (about 100miles i think) or the length of the river thames (about 200miles). Or if you did the thames, you could do it “by any means” and get on a boat for the last bit through London 🙂

How about an overnight walking marathon? I did that back in 2009 (see my bucketlist) or have you already done that? Cant remember!
