Very Lazy Posh Sausage Casserole

Following the launch of a new range of cooking concentrates by “Very Lazy” (you may know them from such products as Very Lazy Garlic and Very Lazy Ginger), the company decided to send out some jars to bloggers to try out at home.  As part of this scheme I was sent the Very Lazy Posh Sausage Casserole.

The cooking sauce is a small jar of thick concentrate which doesn’t look like a lot but it is mixed with water during the cooking so it doubles (or triples) up.

The instructions were very simple and easy to follow.  I think that’s the whole point of the “Very Lazy” side of it – keeping it really simple but at the same time helping you create something that is hearty and home cooked.  All you do is fry the sausages (I chose some decent Lincolnshire sausages… of course) in a little oil until browned (takes just a few minutes) and then put to one side; fry a sliced onion in the concentrate for a few minutes; add a jar of water (or two if you prefer more sauce); put the sausages and the cooking sauce/onion into a casserole dish; cook in the oven for an hour.  Simple.

The only thing I wasn’t too sure of was whether I should cover the casserole or not when it was in the oven.  The instructions didn’t say and as a pretty rubbish chef I didn’t know by instinct.  I left it uncovered, hope that was the right choice (it probably wasn’t!).  It came out of the oven looking like this…

The smell coming from my casserole dish was amazing.  It smelt full of flavour – like it was going to be really good to eat.  I served our Posh Sausage Casserole for Sunday dinner with some (cheats) potato wedges (I’d have done my own, or mash, except I had no potatoes – oops).

The smell did not disappoint.  Mmmmm so very tasty.  In fact I might even prefer it to the sausage casserole I do in my slow cooker… which is pretty good if I do say so myself!  The sauce (I used one jar of water) was thick and there was plenty to go with the wedges.  If you noticed above that there were four sausages on my plate you’d be right – my other half an I polished off the entire casserole between us, which perhaps proves how good it was.

“Very Lazy”?  Well not completely because lazy also suggests unorganised and this still takes over an hour to cook.  But also yes definitely as it’s so simple and there’s barely any preparation to do before you get cooking.  And of course the most important thing – it was really tasty, really really tasty!

I will definitely be buying this product, along with others in the range in the hope they’re all as good as this one.  Thanks Very Lazy 🙂
