Review: Tropical Sun Peri Peri Seasoning

A little while ago I posted about receiving some products from Tropical Sun to review. The Coconut Peanuts went down very well in this house (have you tried them yet?!) – this post is altogether more savoury.

Tropical Sun Peri Peri Seasoning

This is Tropical Sun’s Peri Peri Seasoning. It’s a little pot containing a mix of salt, ground paprika, chilli powder, ground cumin, garlic powder and ground oregano that is designed to sprinkle on chips (like American Chip Spice) or vegetables before or after cooking, or of course using as a coating for chicken to create a very popular dish.

Last night I tried the seasoning on our evening meal. I rubbed a couple of skinless chicken breast fillets in olive oil and then rubbed in the Peri Peri until it was really well coated. I wrapped the chicken in a tin foil parcel and put it in the oven for half a hour to cook gently (using a foil parcel for chicken traps in the flavour and keeps it lovely and moist – no dry chicken here!). It came out a lovely red colour and went very well with the stir fried onion, peppers and baby corn I’d prepared to go with it. The flavour was very good – strong, fairly spicy, maybe a little salty (it is 60% salt), juicy, and yummy. The photo is a bit rubbish really but I’m sure you know what cooked chicken looks like!!

This seasoning is versatile – good for roasting meat, roasting vegetables, stir fries, chips and potato wedges, maybe fajitas too. It’s one of those store cupboard ingredients that can help lift meals to something that gets the mmmmm factor. If you like spicing on your food, then it’s a good one to try.

Disclaimer: I was sent some Tropical Sun products to review. I have not been told what to say and have been no less honest as a result of receiving the product for free.
