Review: Tea Pigs Iced Tea

I don’t need to start this blog post telling you how much I enjoy a nice cup of tea – you all know by know that I am a bit of a tea addict; I chain drink the stuff in large mugs. White, no sugar, if you ever fancy making me one (and I could do with one right about now)!

But what about iced tea? Clean, refreshing, cold; the perfect summer’s afternoon alternative to the traditional kind of tea I normally choose. I don’t drink much of it, to be honest, but I do enjoy it – and until now I’ve only ever bought it ready made. Shameful! Tea Pigs have sorted me out, though, thanks to this lovely parcel of delicious looking flavours they sent me a couple of weeks ago.

It turns out that making iced tea is very simple. Of course it is! Brew your chosen tea in boiled water for three minutes, then add cold water and ice and maybe some honey or a sprig of mint, and drink. Well it would have been simple if I hadn’t lost all my ice cube trays – thankfully a Tupperware container gave me a massive slab of ice that I broke up with the wrong end of a wooden spoon. I must get some new ones!

The flavour of tea pictured was definitely my favourite – lemon and ginger. Gorgeous. Mild, very refreshing, cleansing even. It was absolutely perfect for the evening on which I made it – it was gorgeous outside, I’d been for a run, and this did the trick perfectly. I even got LincsGeek to taste it (he really didn’t want to!) and he was pleasantly surprised. Yes, I know I say on here all the time that I can’t drink herbal or fruit teas as they are horrid, and I definitely wouldn’t want this hot; but iced tea is completely different. They’re not strong powerful flavours here, they’re subtle flavours to be savoured on their own rather than with any kind of snack.

There are several other Tea Pigs flavours that I have found make lovely iced tea – the darjeeling earl grey works a treat (but of course that is caffeinated), and the super fruit is great with red berries added to the mix like a kind of punch. I’m not sure about the liquorice and mint one, I’ve not tried it yet, I’m a bit worried what it might taste like!
