Review: Danio Yogurt (Bzz Review)

I am a Bzz Agent and this is a Bzz Review…

I try lots of new yogurts in the name of Splodz Blogz – this time it is the new Danio super thick yogurts.

Danio

I received vouchers to buy myself a couple of pots of this yogurt, each worth 85p which is the suggested retail price. (Seems a lot for a single pot of yogurt.) Sadly my local Tesco Express in Lincoln were selling Danio at a higher price point which was a bit disappointing but I bought a couple of the Strawberry flavour to test anyway.

This is apparently one of the thickest yogurts on the market – and I have to be honest and say it’s the thickest I think I’ve ever eaten. Really thick. A bit like soft cheese! The spoon happily stands up in the pot and there is no pouring it (although please don’t put it over your head to test… I reckon it’ll all fall out in a big lump if you do!).

It didn’t taste of cheese though, of course! It is presented in two layers – natural yogurt on top and fruit puree underneath. I quite yogurts that are separate like this; I enjoy the taste of natural yogurt and love having fruit compote to add as I choose, so it works for me. I didn’t find either layer that flavoursome, though; it was all a bit lacking. It was all a bit creamy I think, no tang or sharpness, no lasting sweetness that satisfied the after-lunch-cravings I get. Although it certainly filled me up – the 160g pot seemed huge!

Danio

There are six flavours – strawberry, passionfruit, cherry, blueberry, peach and raspberry. They are all high in protein and come in at 0% fat which is marvellous – watch out for the amount of sugar per pot though, 18g in some flavours.

Disclaimer: I am a BzzAgent and was asked to take part in the Danio campaign, which meant I was sent some vouchers for (nearly) free yogurt in return for telling other people what I think about it. I have not been told what to write and I have been no less honest as a result.
