The second annual InstaChimps photography exhibition opens on Monday, and I will once again be showing a handful of pictures I’ve taken on my iPhone.
InstaChimps is a group of mobile photographers based in Lincolnshire. After the success of our inaugural exhibition last year, the group has doubled in size and has expanded beyond its original Lincolnshire roots – 15 photographers will be exhibiting their work, some from as far afield as France. I am really looking forward to seeing all the photos hanging together – there will be a massive variety of subject and style, all brought together by the use of smart phones to take the shots.
I have chosen six images to show this year; a couple of landscapes, some still life, and an ode to my Merrell walking boots. All my shots are black and white, which is a bit of change in style for me. Each photo has been taken on my iPhone 4 or 5 and any editing has also been done on a mobile device using Snapseed, a favourite photography app of mine. Here’s a couple of my favourites >
The exhibition is free to get in, and runs from Monday 2nd September until Friday 13th September 2013 at Lincoln Central Library, Free School Lane. We will be holding a public reception at the Library on Saturday 7th September 2013 between 12noon and 3pm, where some of us (including me!) will be on hand to answer questions about our work.
A secondary, smaller display of mobile photography available to purchase is also running at the Angel Coffee House opposite the Library until the end of September (which will include both the above shots).
It would make my day to know you’ve been to see my photographs hanging in the exhibition, so please let me know if you’ve been and, most importantly, what you thought.

Wow, what superb images. Really impressive photography.
Most people don’t realize but good pictures come from the skill of the photographer, not the quality of equipment. Three decades ago they gave pros cheap instamatic cameras and the results were astonishing.

Thanks very much 🙂
And you’re right – it’s not always about the equipment; it’s wonderful that people have cameras on hand all the time these days, it makes saving memories so much easier.

Brilliant images Zoe. I had a peaceful wander around today. A couple of others were in who came to last year’s exhibition and commented how much they enjoy the work.

Thanks Paul. I popped in earlier just to make sure the photos were still there and a couple of people came in then too, it’s good to know people are going to see the photos!
