World Cup Fever for my Feet

Okay I’ll admit something. I don’t really do football. I don’t mind it as a sport – I enjoyed playing as a kid – but it’s not something I make any effort to watch on the telly and I can’t remember the last time I went to a ground to watch a match live.

Actually, I can. It was when I was at Uni and did a media communications project for Lincoln City Ladies FC – who have recently moved to Nottingham. We went down to Sincil Bank to watch them play a few times during the few weeks of our work for them and I took some photographs. It was good, and we helped the club win an award! (See the press releases.) But that is 12 years ago and I’ve not been to a game since.

I guess my issue with football is embedded in the amount of money involved. Players make millions, clubs charge way too much for people to go and watch, fans even have to pay to watch the games on the television these days. While money in sport is vital, I just think that football has it way out of proportion.

Unfortunately for some, including me, there is no escaping World Cup Fever… it starts tomorrow, had you realised?! But even if you don’t like the beautiful game, the World Cup in Brazil has got to be an excuse for some new brightly coloured tropical flavour shoes… right!!

Surely we all need a pair of the iconic Brazilian Havaianas? You know, just to join in a bit!
