A Mini Thanksgiving Feast

posted in: Food & Drink, Personal | 3

Thanksgiving, an old and traditional holiday and festival over in the USA, is one that has always fascinated me. The idea of openly being thankful for what you have by sharing a celebration meal with your family and friends really appeals.

With Black Friday slowly becoming part of the English shopping calendar thanks to large retailers such as Amazon, I think perhaps we need to take a step back and do the day before first. It’s only right to be thankful for what we have before we go and overspend in store or online.

So this evening I cooked up a bit of an ode to Thanksgiving Day dinner at home – it was only a mini feast as it’s midweek and there are only two of us living in my house, and it was a day early, but it was a feast none-the-less and a rather tasty one I have to say.

Thanksgiving Dinner

On the menu was turkey with a pomegranate and balsamic glaze, mashed potato with garlic and bacon, and green beans with shallot, chilli and button mushroom. It filled our plates and our bellies!!

I don’t normally go to this much effort on a Wednesday evening, and to be completely honest I remember why (far too many ingredients to be worrying about on a work night!). But it was worth the effort this evening so LincsGeek and I could enjoy a special meal and be thankful for what we have.

If you are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, whether you are American or not, I wish you the loveliest of celebrations. Even if you’re not, I hope you will stop just for a moment, forget about all the things you want and need, just for a minute or two, and be thankful for what you have.

Then on Friday don’t be too quick to hand over your credit card 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving x

This is a lovely post. You capture the true spirit of Thanksgiving. For this very reason, it’s many people’s favorite holiday. I heard on the news that we are spreading Black Friday madness to England. That’s sad.

Thanks Ally x I love the idea of Thanksgiving, I think it’s a lovely holiday and I am pleased that I had time to have a mini celebration on Wednesday evening. Yes things got a bit crazy in some supermarkets here on Friday – some people are very strange!
