All the snow and ice has played havock with my running schedule.
Not that I really had a schedule!
I’m in “training” for the Lincoln 10k, which takes place on Sunday 21st March – just 10 weeks away. Before today I last ran on 1st January, and since then apart from walking into town my exercise consisted of one 1-hour badminton session.
I’ve done it for the last three years and so far my times have been:
- March 2007, 1 hour 12 minutes
- March 2008, 1 hour 7 minutes
- March 2009, 1 hour 3 minutes
So this year I am really going for the sub-1 hour mark – should be possible in theory as it’s only 30 seconds per mile, but considering I only normally do any running for the three months before the 10k my fitness does go right down each year.
Today I made a proper start by going out for a 3.5 mile run, which I did in 38 minutes. No-where near the distance or speed I need to be doing, and I was totally shattered at the end, but at least I now have a starting point. I now need to make sure I run regularly (ie more than once a week!) and keep increasing my pace and distance so by the couple of weeks before the event I’m ready.
Here goes!
17/01/10: It’s 10 weeks to the Lincoln 10k and I’ve started my training.
