As you will have read before, I was looking to do this year’s City of Lincoln 10k in under 60 minutes.
So at 11am this morning I set off with over 4,000 other runners in the hope that I would a) reach the end in one piece and b) complete my personal challenge.
Unfortunately I was up in the night being very sick (must have been something I ate yesterday) and so to say my energy was low would be fair. But I felt ok this morning and obviously wanted to give it my best shot.
And give it my best shot I did. The slightly different route was good, the atmosphere was great, and the crowds cheering everyone on were very welcome.
“Unfortunately” I recorded a time of 1 hour 6 mins and 30 seconds, so really I was well off the pace of a sub-60minute run, but am really pleased with my effort. I nearly didn’t make the start after being so ill in the night after all! When I got to the end I definitely knew I couldn’t have given any more, and that is all I asked my body for.
So the big question is do I cross the “do a 10k in less than an hour” off my Things To Do list as a lost cause, or do I try again next year?! The general consensus seems to be try again… something I can decide towards the end of the year. Will it be fifth time lucky?!
