10 Mile Challenge

I don’t know how many times I’ve written on this blog how I look at myself everyday and wish I looked differently.  I’m pretty unhappy with the way I am at the moment – I think about my late teens and wish I was like that again.  I know exactly what is needed – less food and more exercise… I just never seem to be able to get into a routine.

Running at Brickfields in Plymouth - I was really fit once!

This afternoon I had a conversation with my friend Bec about getting motivated with exercise.  We both agreed that we needed some sort of challenge to motivate us. We’ve both run 10k and found that training for something like that is easier than having no goal or nothing to strive for.

So… here’s the plan.

From 1st September we will both aim for 10 miles of exercise a week – that’s running, cycling, brisk walking, even swimming if we get chance.  A week is from Wednesday to Tuesday (because 1st September is a Wednesday) and we’re gonna compare notes and enourage each other.

It’s not gonna that easy to buddy up for this challenge – I live in Lincolnshire and Bec lives in Essex, but we’re pretty good at chatting on twitter and know each other well enough that we can encourage each other to get on and exercise.

It became official when Bec blogged about our challenge earlier this evening: http://beccahambleton.wordpress.com/2010/08/24/10-mile-challenge/ – I guess that’s it now… there’s no getting out of it.

So I have one week to “prepare” myself… 10 miles a week is a big challenge – and doing it week on week I hope I can live up to my own expectations.  Bring on the challenge!
