New Walkers Crinkles – First Taste

New Walkers Crinkles

Yesterday I received these two plain white packets of crisps in the post labelled “Walkers R&D”… blogging is so much fun 🙂

They are infact two bags of NEW Walkers Crinkles – with more flavour in every groove – a brand new range of crisps about to be launched in the UK.  These crisps I was sent are the Cheddar & Onion flavour.

New Walkers Crinkles

First thing is first… these are crinkle cut crisps.  Crinkle cut is nothing new. These new Walkers do look the part.  Bear in mind these were sent by Royal Mail – I was happy to see they were still mainly in tact.  The crisps in each bag were uneven (there is something you can’t trust about perfectly formed identical crisps) and the light shone through them. They weren’t greasy to touch, but it was obvious from holding them that there was a lot of flavouring there.

The smell was good – they smelt like they were going to taste really strong of cheese, a very good sign!

And the taste didn’t disappoint.  These crisps were cheesy… really cheesy… like they are coated in cheese… yum!  The onion was very subtle, but there as a hint in the background.  The two bags of crisps didn’t last very long (shared between two) – they were very morish and if there had been another packet I’m sure they would have gone the same way too.

Are they just another cheese and onion crisp?  I’d say they are cheesier than that, and less oniony – a really pleasant flavour, I would definitely pick these new ones over the originals if I was choosing at lunch time (perhaps not so much a problem if I’ve got a meeting after lunch – less onion breath!).  I reckon they actually do have more flavour in every groove, I am impressed.

These crisps (photo of the packaging above taken from the Pepsico UK & Ireland website) will be available in four flavours – Simply Sea Salted, Cheddar & Onion, Salt & Malt Vinegar, and Sweet Chilli, sometime soon.  I’m looking forward to trying the rest as soon as they are in the shops.
