Fab Ice Lollies – Apple and Blackcurrant

Remember Fab ice lollies?  Come on you remember when you were a kid, sat on a windy (and sometimes wet) beach in Cornwall, protected from the sun (sun should probably be in inverted commas) by a cute little hat and a tshirt, surrounded by wind breaks and spinning twirly toy things, being handed an ice lolly in the middle of the afternoon?  Just me then?  Well they are still around (they have been for 40 years), and still as popular as ever (especially with me!).

This summer the good people at Fab have decided to try a new flavour – and it’s a limited edition available until the end of this summer only!  Meet Apple and Blackcurrant Fabs.

The new flavour, just like the old strawberry ones, is strong and tangy and just gorgeous.  It’s really refreshing, perhaps even more so than the original.  Despite the fact it was dark and raining outside my first taste conjoured up memories of that Cornwall beach I mentioned above.  Although they do seem smaller than they used to (no jokes of me being much bigger please!)?

Ice lollies are a really good way for children and adults alike to have a sweet treat without too many calories (although they’re still high in sugar, of course).  Fabs Apple and Blackcurrent contain 82 calories (Fab Strawberry contain 90) – a third or less of what you find in a little bag of sweets, and so very much less than an ice cream, especially if you always add a flake to your Mr Whippy.  I should add that Fabs contain only natural colours and natural flavours.

Our “extensive testing” this week has lead us to decide that we actually prefer the Apple and Blackcurrant to the original Strawberry flavour – it just seems more zesty and therefore more refreshing.  I shall be stocking up on the new flavour to keep us going throughout the summer months… we just need the sunshine to return because it’s just wrong to be sat eating ice lollies when the heating is on!

Fab ice lollies are available in boxes of eight for £2.10 (currently half price in many places).  The limited edition Apple and Blackcurrant version is available in Asda and only until the end of the summer.
