Shloer Summer Fruit Punch

It’s Bank Holiday Monday tomorrow. What should we all be doing? Having a barbecue! Gardens all over the country will be filled with the scent of lighter fliud, tomato ketchup, pringles and overcooked sausages… and that’s whatever the weather! It’s what us Brits love about lazy Monday afternoons!

And when the weather is good there is nothing better than to wash all that meat and salad down with something ice cold. Fancy punch? Don’t drink alcohol? Driving home? Then how about new Shloer Summer Fruit Punch?

Shloer Summer Fruit Punch is a new limited edition drink for the summer (I wonder what it is with limited edition flavours this year?). As with all other Shloer drinks, this is a lightly sparkling non-alcoholic fruit based drink with that is free from preservatives, artificial colours, sweeteners and flavourings.

Shloer are best known for their sparkling white and red grape drinks, which many people use as a substitue for wine at the dinner table or at parties. I guess this version, which is one of seven flavours of Shloer available at the moment, is designed for your summer parties as a substitute for Pimms or home made punch. Like those drinks, this has been designed for sharing – the idea being that you serve it in a jug with mint, orange, cucumber and strawberries, and lots and lots of ice.

The weather on the day I tried this drink was changeable to say the least. Gorgeous sunshine one minute… completely chucking it down the next. Just like I expect the bank holiday will be! I poured the punch into a jug with loads of ice and some sliced orange, lime and strawberries – and I have to say it really did look the part! I could have done with two 75cl bottles to fill my jug but it looked good anyhow.

As for the taste – well there is a hint of summer in there. It has a light taste – subtle rather than strong, but it is quite fruity. It’s very refreshing, perfect to have on its own rather than with any food (any other flavour might overpower it too much). The ice gradually dilutes it of course which makes the taste even more subtle as it sits there.

I can imagine myself serving this if we had friends over on a hot summer’s afternoon. I think next time I wouldn’t use quite so much ice (too much diluting going on) but will most certainly be using oranges, limes and strawberries to turn this into a colourful drink. If I ever host a garden party (like that’s gonna happen!), this is exactly the sort of drink I would have.

Shloer Summer Fruit Punch is currently available in Tescso (and other supermarkets!) for £2.09 and it’s buy one get one free – worth trying I’d say (but make sure you get the fruit to go with it too!).

Thank you to Shloer for sending me a bottle of their new Summer Fruit Punch to try for Splodz Blogz.
