Mrs Crimbles Macaroons

“Free From” goods are important for many households… and while they’re not specifically needed for me or my hubby, a couple of people in our family do have intolerances and allergies that mean we have come across Mrs Crimbles before.

The 20-year old bakery are well known for wheat-free (and mostly gluten free) cakes and treats – and they sent me some of the range of macaroons to try out.

Coconut Macaroons

Sweet, moist and full of coconut – these are a traditional coconut macaroon, and they are really lovely.  While these are the “basic” recipe there is nothing “plain” about them. Just yummy from first to last bite.

Cranberry Macaroons

These are a new edition to the range, perfect for the festive season. They are, as I’m sure you can work out, coconut macaroons with cranberries added… a simple idea. They taste really good, but I’m not 100% convinced the cranberry enhances the “plain” version.  I think if I had to choose I’d go for the traditional ones over these, but they are a nice alternative.

Chocolate Macaroons

Apparently Britain’s best selling macaroon (selling more than one a second!), these are traditional coconut macaroons dipped and drizzled in chocolate. Yum and so perfect with a cuppa.

Of the three flavours I tried the traditional “plain” coconut macaroons are definitely the best – with the chocolate ones and cranberry ones coming in after.  All three make a really nice sweet snack perfect to accompany a cup of tea.

And of course is something tastes good, it doesn’t matter to me if they’re “Free From” or not – but it’s a great bonus for those who have an issue with wheat or gluten.  You can get them pretty much anywhere including farm shops and major supermarkets priced at £1.49 for six.
