2012 in 2012 – April Update

Wow it’s the end of April already. A third of 2012 is gone.

I’ll start with the data:

2012 in 2012 Summary, Monday 30th April

Total for April >> 169.8 km

Total for 2012 >> 843.7 km

Average per day (121 days) >> 6.9 km

Remaining >> 1168.3 km to go

I said in my March update that April would be all about walking. And it was. The numbers aren’t as high as they have been so far this year but I guess that’s mainly because it takes longer to go the same distance on foot than it does cycling. I’m happy – my daily total is still above the 5.5 km it needs to be so I’ve done enough to still be very well on track for my 2012 total. My longest walk this month was 22 miles on Saturday – my last big training walk before the Moonwalk in a couple of weeks. I had some time on some footpaths too though so it wasn’t all pavement.

Most of my time outdoors in April has been in the rain. Not surprising really, it hasn’t stopped. I only gave up on a walk once – I was soaked through within 3 miles and cold and it was hailing so I turned around and walked back home again. At least I went out for a bit rather than just looking out the window and going back to bed!

This month also included the funniest “get outdoors” moment of the year (so far). I took my trombone up onto the Yorkshire Moors (also in the rain and hail) as part of a promise to Merrell. I’m having loads of fun testing shoes and other outdoorsy stuff as part of my get outdoors aim this year – I hope you’re enjoying those posts and reviews here on Splodz Blogz.

May will again be all about the walking. Apparently it’s national walking month or something so it would be rude not to! It’s very apt of course, because I’m doing two major walking events – the London Moonwalk on 12th May and the Yorkshrie Three Peaks Challenge on 19th May. Yes that’s just one week apart and will be 50 miles (80 km) accounted for. I reckon that apart from that I won’t be doing any massive distances so I may find it’s a small month in figures, but you never know I may also fit in some other walks or bike rides too. I’ll let you know.
