The Second Verse

I think everyone noticed… two verses of our National Anthem were played at the start of the first event of London 2012 – the women’s football match between New Zealand and Team GB.

And it seems we’ll be hearing two verses whenever it’s played (let’s hope that’s lots of times because we win lots of medals!).

I wonder if Team GB have learnt both? I suspect not – the Team GB Ladies Football Team certainly weren’t expecting it.

There are actually five verses… but here are the two I’ve normally sung at Military and Scouting events if you fancy joining in next time!

God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour
Long may she reign
May she defend our laws
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen

So now you know for next time 🙂
