2012 in 2012 – June and July Update

After a pretty decent start to my 2012 km in 2012 challenge, things went a bit pear shaped in June. My friends and regular readers of Splodz Blogz know why that was, and while I hate making excuses, I can honestly say that I did all I could. The start of July was pretty rubbish too, but over the last couple of weeks I have made a concerted effort to get on with exercising often to pull back something of this challenge.

I was inspired by Bradley Wiggins and team – who wasn’t – and following his amazing time trial on the penultimate day of the Tour de France I got on the exercise bike. He did 53.5km in 1 hour 4 minutes and 13 seconds. I did 32.4 km in the same time. I was shattered, but quite proud of my efforts, it was a personal best. No where near his amazingness – what an awesome sportsman (and with Olympic Gold too now) – but I’ll take that.

To be fair the majority of my km over the last couple of months have been indoors. I have found that exercise bike has been a useful way to get moving. I have been getting outdoors, I’ve not abandoned that new year’s pledge at all, I’ve been walking and riding my motorbike, but not much cycling to and from work and not as many walks as I’d like. Hopefully we’ll get some decent summer at some point and I can get outdoors even more. I’ve got some new KEEN walking sandals so we’d better get some sun!

The data…

2012 in 2012 Summary, Tuesday 31st July

Total for June >> 99.7 km

Total for July >> 200.6 km

Total for 2012 >> 1,320.9 km

Average per day (214 days) >> 6.17 km

Remaining >> 691.1 km to go

With my efforts over the last couple of weeks I’m actually still ahead of my target – phew. With five months to go and 690+ km to get done it’s definitely not all over yet. I’m happy with that, it’s more than I expected when I started writing this little update.
