Marmachilli

My love of marmalade is something that comes and goes. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I really don’t like it at all. When I do like it I go for a sharp chunky marmalade with loads of flavour.

Marmachilli is not your average marmalade… it is made with Seville oranges and a chilli kick. Chilli in marmalade? Can this work?

The preserve itself looks and smells great. You can see the thin cut orange and also the bits of chilli – there are some seeds in there, you just know it’s going to taste different to any other marmalade you’ve ever tasted. It has a really nice consistency when you stick your knife in the jar, and spreads easily on toast.

A little nervous, I took a bite of the Marmachilli covered toast. Ooo that’s good! You get all the full flavour of oranges, the texture of thin cut marmalade, aaaaaand the heat of chilli. It does indeed work, really well. Honestly. Really lovely. The chilli is warming but not over powering – this is still a marmalade, but with that added extra kick.

I enjoyed Marmachilli on toast very much, but it also goes perfectly with croissants instead of jam and with cheese and crackers instead of chutney – it’s quite versatile. I reckon it would make a great sticky sauce for chicken or duck too – mmmm might try that one.

Clippy creates funky, friendly preserves that contain more fresh fruit than any other jam, conserves or fruit spreads (so much fruit they can’t call them jam!). Now I’ve tried this one I am off to give Clippy’s apple based products a go (apples are what Clippy is best known for). For more information (including stockists, you’ve got to try this) check out the website.

Disclaimer: I was sent a jar of Marmachilli to review. I have not been told what to write and have been no less honest as a result.
