Laughing Cow Blue Cheese

The Laughing Cow makes soft spreadable cheese triangles. They also make Mini Babybel which are simply scrummy but that’s not why I’m blogging about them. They have brought out a new cheese wedge – Light Blue Cheese – and sent me some to try out.

I must say, I’m not the world’s biggest blue cheese fan. I do love cheese (you’ll know this from the plethora of cheese reviews I have done on Splodz Blogz this year!). I won’t normally choose a blue cheese over a yellow cheese or goats cheese. But when I was offered this I was told it was light and creamy (and I know LincsGeek does like stong blues), so I couldn’t say no.

What’s the first thing you notice about the cheese in this photograph? Anything? Well the first thing I noticed was the lack of any blue. I did think there might be a few blue veins like in any good blue cheese. But there aren’t any. After checking the packaging to make sure I’d got the right cheese, I realised it must be right. And actually thinking about it more carefully I realised you wouldn’t have blue veins in a soft spreadable cheese would you?! So I squished it over my Ryvita (yep I’m still eating those after reviewing them earlier in the year, I really do like them) and went for it anyway.

I must say, it’s really lovely. Not a traditional blue of course, but lovely and creamy, with a definite blue cheese flavour. It is very mild but the taste of blue is there, and being soft it’s really easy to spread on crackers where normal blue would normally just crumble. Topped with the grapes it made a perfect supper. They’re only 25 calories per triangle (one triangle covered one Ryvita just right) too which is very low for cheese – my supper was properly healthy!

I have to say, those little red tags you’re supposed to pull to easily remove the foil packaging… they were impossible to use successfully when I was ten, and they are still impossible now. I end up in such a mess! I would definitely choose a tub over the wedges… but I will definitely be buying this cheese.

Disclaimer: I was sent some of this cheese by The Laughing Cow so I could review it here on Splodz Blogz. I have not been told what to write and am always honest.
