Review: Personalised Kitchen Herb Crate

If you follow any of my social media accounts you’ll know that last week I had this rather lovely personalised herb crate delivered courtesy of Find me a Gift.

Herb Crate from Find me a Gift

The gift is a small wooden apple crate, painted in one of a number of colours (you choose) and with the letters of your choice printed on the side. You won’t be surprised to see that I chose the green paint finish (it’s a light pea-green, quite muted and pleasant)!

Along with the crate you get a herb seed starter kit, which includes basil, parsley and coriander seeds, soil, pots, and sticks to label them. To this you need to add a tray of some description (to allow for gentle watering and to stop the water and soil from the plant pots spilling on the worktop) and some cling film. The idea is that you use the little plant pots to sew and grow your seeds inside, and then once the herb plants are established transplant them into bigger pots or directly into the crate depending on whether you want to keep them inside or out.

I am the first to admit that I am not very green fingered. I struggle to keep any plants alive, to be honest, although over the last few years I have managed to keep a couple of roses in pots and my little house plant in my kitchen window is looking rather healthy! So when planting my kitchen herbs I followed the instructions really carefully. The basil and parsley seeds are small and so are placed on top of the soil, but the coriander are large and so they have a shallow layer of soil over the top. I used cling film to cover over the flower pots, which I’d placed into some of my black tea cups in lieu of a tray (and it looks better than using an ice cream tub!). Then I crossed my fingers and hoped!!

And I had basil seedlings within just a few days!! I was genuinely excited when I looked the other morning and spotted the teeny little green sprouts poking out of the soil. Nothing from the other two plant pots yet, but I am hopeful – keep an eye on my instagram feed as I’m bound to post photos when they appear.

This definitely falls into the category of a decent personalised gift – well made, well stencilled, and not at all tacky. The crate is made from pine in the UK and treated for outdoor use, although it is also small enough to sit on a kitchen window ledge if you prefer. I’m not sure if I’ll keep mine indoors or outdoors yet – I’m thinking indoors so I have my herbs to hand, but it would look equally as good on the decking.

You can order the personalised herb garden on the Find Me a Gift website for £24.99 – there are also other versions of the crate depending on what seeds you would like.

Disclaimer: I was sent this product by Find Me A Gift to review here on Splodz Blogz. I have not been told what to write and have been no less honest as a result.
