What do you have hanging above your fireplace? Anything? We don’t – the space is empty. It bothers me for some reason. Everyone else’s house I’ve been to has something lovely in that space; a large mirror, a beautiful photograph, a lovely painting. What you put in that focal point can really make the room sum up your personality.
You can buy original art from Saatchi Online www.saatchionline.com – the site has lots of original artworks for sale from paintings to photographs and sculptures and installations. Now I know I couldn’t fit an installation in my lounge, but I’m rather taken with the idea of having an original painting (as opposed to a print) hanging there to brighten the place up.
Two in-particular caught my attention – both modern art. What do you think?
Sunburst by Linda Colletta | Acrylic on Canvas @Linda Colletta
One Very Confused Spring by Yuliya Vladkovska | Acrylic, Flu and Permanent Ink Marker on Canvas @Yuliya Vladkovska
Of the two I like the bottom one – One Very Confused Spring – best but think the square format of Sunburst would probably work better in the room. You pay good money for the originals of course; but I love the idea of having something real, with all the texture and finger prints you get when paint is put on canvas.
Maybe I should paint something myself – it’s been a while since I opened all those tubes of paint in the box upstairs.
