Lincolnshire Sausage Festival and Food and Farming Festival

The Bailgate area of Lincoln had a really great atmosphere today – the Lincolnshire Sausage Festival and Food and Farming Festival were both taking place in the Castle and Cathedral grounds. The smells were amazing – local farmers and related organisations of all kinds set up stands to sell their wares and promote their businesses.

I met Ben and Alex from Snap It Taste It Blog It outside the Cathedral and we had a wander around both festivals together. It was great to meet someone local who also loves to blog.

The Food and Farming Festival took over Lincoln Cathedral – what a fantastic space for such an event! It was great to see the magnificent church bustling with people.

The harvest display looked rather spectacular – I wonder how many Lincolnshire churches have been able to boast such a display of produce this year?

The people at Traditionally Smoked had a busy stand – they had samples of their smoked fish available; very (very) tasty it was, too.

These guys were performing outside the Castle – they were rather entertaining and really got the crowd going. Certainly brought a smile to my face.

Even the Castle guards were eating hot dogs.

The Castle grounds was full of Lincolnshire butchers – we sampled sausages, cheese, crisps and anything else that we spotted. This shot was taken at about 11.30am, but by midday it was even busier. Great to see so many people enjoying the festival.

I can absolutely recommend Lexis’ Larder – try her chorizo sausage rolls, seriously good. And the pork scratchings from Rose Cottage were nothing like those little foil bags you get in the pub – more like big hunks of pork!

Curtis’ offered Ben from Snap It Taste It Blog It the chance to fill some Lincolnshire sausages – he seemed to know exactly what he was doing and ended up with a great string of sausages. Nicely done Ben!
