Some Snaps of a Quick Motorcycle Ride to France

There has been a lot in the media over the last few weeks about the 70th anniversary of D-Day. Codenamed Operation Overlord, D-Day was the landing operations on 6 June 1944 (termed D-Day) of the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II. It was the largest seaborne invasion in history and began the invasion of German-occupied western Europe, leading to restoration of the French Republic, and contributing to an Allied victory in the war.

I don’t know about you, but with all the coverage of the anniversary, my knowledge of what happened that day has increased immensely. But nothing has helped more than actually visiting some of the D-Day sites over in France a couple of weeks ago.

We decided to take the bikes over to France to visit some First and Second World War sites. Just a small handful – we were only away for a few days – but it was great to explore. We visited Dunkirk Beach, the Somme, Thiepval Cemetery and Memorial to the Missing, Omaha Beach, Longues sur Mer Battery and Mont Saint-Michel, and rode through lots of other places.

Naturally I had my phone with me, and so here is a selection of snaps from our short trip. Hope you like!

Photos are taken on a combination of iPhone 5 and my Olympic point and shoot.
