A Mini Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving, an old and traditional holiday and festival over in the USA, is one that has always fascinated me. The idea of openly being thankful for what you have by sharing a celebration meal with your family and friends really appeals.

With Black Friday slowly becoming part of the English shopping calendar thanks to large retailers such as Amazon, I think perhaps we need to take a step back and do the day before first. It’s only right to be thankful for what we have before we go and overspend in store or online.

So this evening I cooked up a bit of an ode to Thanksgiving Day dinner at home – it was only a mini feast as it’s midweek and there are only two of us living in my house, and it was a day early, but it was a feast none-the-less and a rather tasty one I have to say.

On the menu was turkey with a pomegranate and balsamic glaze, mashed potato with garlic and bacon, and green beans with shallot, chilli and button mushroom. It filled our plates and our bellies!!

I don’t normally go to this much effort on a Wednesday evening, and to be completely honest I remember why (far too many ingredients to be worrying about on a work night!). But it was worth the effort this evening so LincsGeek and I could enjoy a special meal and be thankful for what we have.

If you are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, whether you are American or not, I wish you the loveliest of celebrations. Even if you’re not, I hope you will stop just for a moment, forget about all the things you want and need, just for a minute or two, and be thankful for what you have.

Then on Friday don’t be too quick to hand over your credit card 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving x
