Walk to Work Week

How far do you live away from work? I live around 4.5 miles from the office, which on any normal day is a bit far to walk. But as I’m a) training for the Lyke Wake Walk and b) it’s walk to work week, I thought it was compulsory! Actually I admit I shall not be commuting on foot today, mainly because I have a large parcel to take with me to post at lunch time that would be a bit cumbersome for that distance, but I have been known to do so and I intend to at some point this week. I promise.

Walk to Work Week is is part of National Walking Month, an annual campaign run by Living Streets which promotes walking for all.

The simple fact is that walking is amazingly good for you. Just look at these benefits…

And let’s face it, if you live one or two miles from work then walking will probably take you less time than faffing about with the car and finding a parking space anyway! What’s two miles? Half an hour at a brisk pace? I definitely hope you don’t drive in if you are less than a mile from the office!

Will you be walking to work this week? Every day? Just the once? Do you wish you could? Tell me about your commute.

Inspired by the BEDM topic for today – walk to work week.
