UK MOTORCYCLE TOURING ROUTES

I’m in my home office watching the weather. It’s pants. It’s gone dark even though it’s the middle of the afternoon, the rain is lashing down, the wind is rattling everything that might make any kind of noise. Some people might say there is no such thing as bad weather, but when it comes to motorcycling, I have to disagree. I much prefer riding when the days are long and the weather is warm and sunny.

But it’s okay, because when the weather is rubbish we can take time to get the map out and plan future expeditions. I love a road trip here in the UK, I think it’s such a good way to explore our country, and so while my GS is staying put in the garage today, I am always on the look out for great rides. Over the years I’ve ridden my motorbike from John O’Groats to Land’s End, visited the four compass points of mainland Great Britain, done the iconic North Coast 500, and ridden extensively in Wales and Scotland. But where next? I think Devon and Cornwall are calling me… again!

In case you’re also looking for road trip inspiration, here’s an infographic from Trago with Top Three UK Motorcycle Touring Routes. I’ve done that top one and have a vivid memory of having to ride with my feet cross legged on a loaner Harley Davidson Sportster Nightster because the puddle across the road was so deep I’d have had my feet right in it otherwise, followed by utilising the hand dryers in the Minehead McDonalds toilets to warm up… I definitely need to do it again on a better day!

Have you done any of these road trip routes (by motorcycle or any other form of transport)?  The one through the Brecons has made it right to the top of my list – that would make an excellent weekend ride from here in Gloucestershire. Bring on the spring!

Thanks to Trago for sponsoring this post, and for the road trip inspiration.
