WEEKLY BLOG EPISODE 69 | ACHIEVING NOTHING?

posted in: The Weekly Blog | 1

Good evening and happy weekly blog time! How has your week been? How did you spend May Day? Did you celebrate Star Wars Day with a suitably themed tshirt? What has been on your menu this week?

Splodz Blogz | The Weekly Blog Episode 69

In all honesty I feel like I’ve achieved nothing at all this week. Just one of those weeks, I guess. After the disappointment of the weekend (read Weekly Blog Episode 68), I’ve been a bit tired, the weather has been mostly rubbish, and basically, I’ve been fully languishing at home. I think I’ve watched more YouTube videos this week than ever before to avoid anything remotely productive, although that’s probably not an achievement, though, right?!

Anyway, as I always try to do, let me fill this episode of my weekly blog with things I did rather than didn’t do. Here are thee successes in an otherwise blah week…

First Dose Done

I guess the biggest thing I experienced this week was the first dose of my Covid vaccination. My age group very recently became eligible to book the vaccination here in England, and I admit I was very keen to get mine done as soon as possible.

I had to head a little distance away from home, but it was no bother, I’m fortunate to have transport so I was happy to go where the vaccines were available rather than waiting. It was so well organised and made so incredibly easy; the people running the centre did a great job, the nurse was very clear and kind, and I was back in my car within just a few minutes.

The centre I attended were administering the AstraZenica vaccine, and while a lot was made of the rare clot side effect, this wasn’t a big concern for me and I was happy to have it. I’m pleased to report that, other than a heavy arm for a couple of days (which doesn’t count in my book, I got stabbed in the arm, of course it was a bit sore), and a headache the following morning, which could easily have been coincidence, I was side-effect-free. I know many people have had horrible side effects and I am grateful that wasn’t my experience.

Now I wait the 12 weeks or so we have to here for my second dose… roll on July when I’ll be fully done.

My Bike is Back

Those of you who read last week’s weekly blog (Weekly Blog Episode 68) will be pleased to hear that my bike is now safely back in my own garage, having spent the week at bike hospital.

My old and trusty F650GS twin is running very nicely once again, and I am very grateful. It turned out to be just the battery and nothing else, which surprised me, but I’m not complaining!

I’m also not complaining about how wet I got bringing my bike back home on Saturday… not much, anyway!

Now I need a few things to align again so I can get back out riding – weather, time, and energy levels. I’ll let you know!

A Very Small Vegetable Garden

Do you grow vegetables in your garden? I’m no vegetable gardener, not at all, but in recent years I have enjoying having an edible plant or two to look after and eat.

I’m really late to the planting game this year, I had courgette flowers by this time last year. I guess in terms of the weather it isn’t late, we had sleet and hail earlier this week, and I don’t have a greenhouse or a lot of indoor space for growing seedlings. But the courgette seeds are finally sewn, and I bought a little tomato plant from the garden centre.

The courgette seeds are on the windowsill in the dining room in the hope that means the birds don’t get them until they are big enough to put outside, and the tomato is in a pot in the sunniest spot I could in the garden.

Together with my selection of herbs and my little blueberry and raspberry bushes, I’m hoping for a reasonable harvest in the coming months. I am far from self sufficient, I don’t have time for that, but I do love eating what I’ve grown.

I’ve potentially got a couple of pots spare this year – what do you reckon I could put in those? Maybe some lettuce or beans? What would you plant?

And there we have it. Three successes from an otherwise blah week. I wonder what the next seven days will hold? I hope whatever you get up to this coming week that you have a good one. I’m at work as normal this coming week but then I have a week off the day job so hopefully I can spend a bit of time this week making some fun plans.

As always, I would really love to hear from you in the comments below. Let me know what your favourite thing about the last seven days has been, and don’t forget to get your One Hour Outside today… whatever day you happen to be reading this on!
