CURRENTLY LOVING | MARCH 2025

Welcome to the March edition of my Currently Loving series for 2025. In this semi-regular segment, I enjoy sharing a handful of things that are brightening my days, be they material or otherwise. This short, curated list brings together the little joys that spark happiness and add a smile or two to my daily routine.

Sharing these favourites isn’t about encouraging you to rush out and buy them all (or any of them). Instead, it’s about recognising and celebrating some of the simple pleasures that enrich our lives or make our daily grind a tad smoother. You know, things that make life easier, or just nicer.

My lists are always eclectic – sometimes they’re packed with outdoorsy delights, and other times they’re all about cozy comforts. Most of the time they are a bit of both. And this time even more so – I couldn’t even put one of the items in my photo. So, without further ado, here are ten things that I think you should know about…

Currently Loving | March 2025

01 Simple Black Sweater

This is the Rev’it Lightning Jumper, a simple black sweatshirt from the renowned adventure motorcycle clothing brand. I just think the minimalist design, with a jet-black colour and a large yet subtle black logo on the front, is a classic. Not garish, not shouty, just a perfect basic casual jumper with a motorcycling flavour.

It’s actually pretty thick, with a soft fleecy feeling on the inside, and so it really rather cozy. It will work well as a layer underneath my armoured gear when riding in the cold weather, but to be honest the reason I got it was for everyday wear. Expect to see me in this a lot this year!

It’s a men’s fit so I got it in a small. I could probably do with an extra inch of fabric around the hem, which falls at my widest part, but I think I get away with it – a medium would have been too long.

02 Green Cord Jacket

I got this Corduroy Chore Jacket by Superdry for Christmas, and it’s safe to say I’m in love. Now we’ve had some spring-like weather, I can happily report this beautiful dark green jacket has become my go-to. The boxy cut and corduroy fabric is comfortable, functional, and maybe even a little bit stylish?!

The jacket is versatile and will be perfect for the days in spring and summer when it’s dry but not warm. It has a relaxed fit and laid-back look, but still looks put-together. The multiple pockets are a practical bonus, although none of them have zips so I won’t be using them instead of a bag.

Most importantly, the jacket feels a lot like ‘me’. I’m going to get a lot of wear out of this one.

03 Film Scores and Musicals

Lately, I’ve found myself diving back into the world of film scores and musicals, rekindling an old love through my new(ish) Spotify subscription. Having access to (what seems like) all music ever recorded has allowed me to reopen this cherished book, and I’m definitely currently loving it.

While I enjoy all kinds of music, it’s film scores and musical soundtracks that have that unique ability to transport me to another world. Music with storytelling at its heart will never fail to lift my spirit or touch my soul. Whether it’s sweeping grandeur, haunting beauty, or infectious exuberance, scores bring a vibrant soundtrack to whatever I happen to be doing.

In case you are curious, my favourite film score at the moment is James Horner’s An American Tail. Do you remember that one?! And my favourite musical soundtrack is Matilda – that’s the stage musical version rather than the film version, because ‘Loud’ is sadly missing from the latter!

This renewed musical journey has been a source of inspiration and happiness, connecting me with emotions only music can evoke. Honestly, isn’t music fabulous?!

The headphones pictured are my Sennheiser PXC 550s, which are starting to fall apart after years of use – any replacement recommendations?

04 The Weirdness of Severance

We’re about halfway through season two of Severance on Apple TV, and I have to say, I’m hooked. You too?! I didn’t watch it when the first series came out, but was persuaded to catch up when the second series started, and am now about half way through.

The story is so incredibly engaging, weaving together a complex narrative that is very entertaining. What I love most is the perfect amount of weirdness. It manages to be thought-provoking and mysterious without being too confusing or over-the-top. You follow the characters as they develop, and their journeys are captivating and emotionally resonant. I also really appreciate cinematography; each shot meticulously crafted to enhance the show’s eerie and unsettling atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a series that combines a compelling story with beautiful visuals and just the right amount of strangeness, Severance is definitely worth a watch. No spoilers if you’re up to date – I’m a couple of episodes behind!!

05 Hiking

Kicking off the year with a multi-day hiking adventure on the Mendip Way was one of the best decisions I’ve made for a long time. Despite the challenging weather and the relentless mud, I found myself loving every moment of the journey. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about conquering a long-distance trail, especially when faced with nature’s unpredictable elements.

The few day hikes I’ve done so far this year have been equally rewarding, offering a perfect blend of physical challenge and mental relaxation. Going on a really long walk ticks all the boxes for me – from the sense of accomplishment to the peaceful connection with nature. It’s a time to clear my mind, reflect, and soak in the beauty of the surroundings.

I’m looking forward to many more hiking adventures as the year goes on. With each hike, there’s always something new to discover, whether it’s a hidden trail, a big view, or an unexpected encounter with wildlife. Here’s to embracing the challenges and joys of hiking, one step at a time!

I’ve also been enjoying the ability to embed OS Maps onto my blog now (have you noticed?!), making it easier to share my routes and adventures with you. And for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet, use OSCHAMPS to claim three months free premium access to the app (code only works via the mobile app) – it’s a game-changer for planning and sharing your hikes.

If you’re curious, this is what I pack when I do a day hike (includes links to the pack and poles).

06 Learning About Random Ologies

The Ologies podcast is a recent discovery thanks to a recommendation from a friend earlier this year. Hosted by the ever-curious Alie Ward, each episode delves into a different “ology” or field of study, uncovering fascinating insights that I might never have stumbled upon otherwise.

Each episode is an entertaining mix of humour, interviews with experts, and surprising facts that keep me engaged and eager to learn more. Alie Ward turns seemingly obscure topics into captivating stories which are a delightful escape into the wonders of our world. It’s proving the perfect companion for walks and runs – some real learning on the go.

So far, my favourite episodes have been Dendrology (Trees) with Casey Clapp, Myrmecology (Ants) with Dr Terry McGlynn, Fearology (Fear) with Mary Poffenroth, and Hippopotomology (Hippos) with Rebecca Lewison. Oh, and today I listened to Corvid Thanatology (Crow Funerals) with Kaeli Swift, which was so interesting! But honestly, every episode I’ve listened to has been interesting and entertaining, and I highly recommend adding this one to your podcast feed. I guarantee you’ll be currently loving it too!

And in the interests of telling you what you’re looking at – these are my Sony WI-C100 in-ear headphones, which are perfect for when I’m on the go, and this is the super handy little pouch I keep them in.

07 Comfy Cargo Trousers from FatFace

A very recent purchase, these are my new FatFace Boston Cargo Pants in navy blue. I thought twice about including yet another item of clothing in this currently loving list, but I do love a practical bit of everyday clothing, and these have become a firm favourite.

They are an excellent trouser for casual days when I don’t want to wear jeans – ideal for laid-back outings or even just lounging at home. The fabric is soft and seems durable, the navy-blue colour is a shade that will go with pretty much anything, and the cut and fit is just right for my frame (I bought the size 12). I particularly like the look of the cuffed ankles, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but they are mine.

These aren’t quite full-on 90s throwback cargo trousers as they don’t have the pockets down the legs, but they are definitely a nod to what I was wearing as a teenager. Maybe that’s why I like them?!

The orange belt is the Rohan Anywhere Belt, which was a gift from a friend way back at the end of 2018 – I couldn’t find it online anymore.

08 Holidays and Sweet Treats

Nothing rejuvenates the soul quite like a holiday, especially when it’s filled with sunshine, history, and sweet treats. My recent trip to Paphos in Cyprus was the perfect winter escape, offering an excellent blend of urban exploration, Roman artifacts, and sweet indulgences. I was captivated by the rich history of this small city – from the expansive ancient ruins and well-preserved mosaic floors to the serene beauty of the harbour.

One of the highlights of my trip was the food, with sweet treats stealing the spotlight. I’m a bit of a fan of baklava, and Cyprus didn’t disappoint with its own delicious version. And when a hotel puts on a baklava buffet you know you chose a good place to stay! But what truly won my heart was (re)discovering Cyprus delight – a slight variation of Turkish delight. I mean, even as I write this, I’m munching on a piece (bought from Aphrodites Secret in Paphos Harbour)

The combination of winter sun, historical exploration, and mouth-watering treats made this short holiday just what I needed. It’s amazing how just a few nights away somewhere can bring so much joy and a renewed sense of wonder. Here’s to many more holidays filled with sunshine and sweet delights!

09 Tinned Lentils

Over the last few months, I’ve been embracing the simplicity and versatility of tinned lentils. These little legumes may seem a little too basic for a currently loving list, but their potential in the kitchen is anything but ordinary, and I’ve been making all sorts with them.

Tinned lentils are a fantastic time-saver, requiring no soaking or lengthy cooking. They’re ready to use straight from the can, making them perfect for quick and easy meals. I’ve found myself reaching for them often, whether I’m whipping up a quick curry or chilli, adding them to salads, or incorporating them into stews and casseroles. Sometimes they are my main protein source in a dish, but they also work in meat dishes to add fibre. I love their ability to absorb flavours and adapt to a variety of dishes. They’re nutritious, budget-friendly, and versatile – a must-have in any store cupboard.

If you’ve not cooked with tinned lentils yet, I’d recommend starting with something like this tinned lentil and coconut curry recipe from BBC Good Food. I make double to make sure there are plenty of leftovers (I meal prep six portions when I can to help future Zoe with quick dinners). Delicious.

10 The Sunshine

Something abstract (and not pictured) but so incredibly important to end my currently loving feature this time around… the sunshine. It honestly makes such a profound difference in my day. At the time of writing, the last week has been a burst of gorgeous spring sunshine, and it’s been impossible not to notice the lift in my mood.

There’s something almost magical about how the golden rays filter through the trees, casting pretty shadows and adding a touch of warmth to even the chilliest of days. A bright blue sky makes me feel more energised and ready to tackle whatever the day has in store, and my morning walks and jogs have been lighter. It’s as if everything just looks and feels better when bathed in sunlight – even the birds seem to sing a little louder and flowers appear more vibrant.

It’s no wonder that sunshine has a reputation for boosting happiness and wellbeing. It’s definitely a welcome change from weeks of grey, overcast, damp days we’ve had. So, here’s me finishing my March currently loving list with the simple yet incredible joy of sunshine – a reminder of the beauty and brightness that nature brings into our lives!
