This evening we went to try MIA, a new Italian in Sleaford that has recently been opened by chef Vito Cataffo.

I have thought ever since I moved to the town that Sleaford is in need of a really good restaurant.  I am yet to try O’Connells which hasn’t been open for very long, and am looking forward to trying that one too.

We weren’t disappointed by MIA.  We were seated by Vito himself, who was definitely in charge of the operation this evening (especially the kitchen, which you can see clearly from the restaurant), and were looked after very well by the four or so waitors/waitresses working this evening.  When I opened the menu and realised it was the same as Gino’s in Lincoln (another of Vito’s restaurants), I was both a little disappointed and very happy – I love Gino’s and know I enjoy the food, but I guess I was also hoping for something new.  I can see why having the same menu at two restaurants with different names makes a lot of marketing sense.

We went for a Garlic Pizza to start (to share), which I followed with Pollo alla Crema, which was totally gorgeous (and was served with plenty of sauce, which is quite often what lets chicken meals down).  Pudding?  Oh yes!  Meringue with banana and butterscotch – my favourite when I go to Gino’s.  The food was excellent, and served very quickly.  The staff were very pleasant and judging from the comments made by other people eating we were not the only ones who were impressed with the restaurant (one gentleman said it was “the best meal out I have eaten in Sleaford” – and we would both agree with him).

We will definitely be going back to MIA, and have already decided to take family/friends there when we have opportunity.  At last, Sleaford has a great Italian restaurant which I am sure we will go to often.
