Will you join in my annual One Hour Outside November challenge? This is my tenth time asking…
It’s that time of year again – the leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and it’s the perfect season to embrace the great outdoors. Really! Welcome to my One Hour Outside Challenge for November 2024! Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or just looking to add a bit of fresh air to your routine, this challenge is for everyone.
November probably isn’t the most inviting month to spend time outside. The days are short, the weather is cool (and probably wetter), and it can be incredibly tempting to stay indoors. But that’s what makes this challenge so rewarding. Pushing yourself to get outside, even when it’s not the easiest choice, can lead to some memorable and fulfilling experiences.
Join me and make a commitment to spend at least one hour outside every day this November.

Why One Hour Outside?
Spending time outside has countless benefits for our mental and physical health. It boosts our mood, reduces stress, and even improves creativity. Plus, it’s a fantastic way to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty around us.
Fitness and Mindfulness
Remember, the outdoors is for everyone. Yes, you can use One Hour Outside to help improve your fitness if you like, but you definitely don’t need to be scaling mountains or running marathons for your hour outside to count. It’s all about getting outside every day, enjoying the fresh air, and taking a break from the indoors. Whether it’s a gentle stroll, sitting in your garden, or playing with your kids at the park, every bit of time spent outside is valuable.
Take the opportunity to practice mindfulness. Notice the changing colours in the landscape, the crispness of the air, and the sounds of nature around you. Being present in the moment can enhance your outdoor experience and provide a sense of calm and clarity.
Get Your One Hour Outside Started
Getting outsode is for every day of the year, but for the moment let’s assume we’re just aiming to get outside every day in November. 30 hours in 30 days. Should be doable…
Set a Goal
Maybe spending One Hour Outside a day is enough for you. But if it isn’t, decide what you want to achieve with this challenge. Is it to explore new trails, spend quality time with family, or simply enjoy some peace and quiet?
Plan Your Activities
Think about what outdoor activities you enjoy. It could be hiking, biking, gardening, or even just a leisurely walk in the park. Put a few fun things in the diary, arrange to meet up with friends, make a list of things you’d quite like to do or places you’d like to go, have a look at your local OS Map (start here, the green spaces layer is free to all) to plan a few lunch time walking routes, and get yourself prepared and ready.
If you need some ideas, there’s a bunch in these posts:
Track Your Progress
Consider keeping a journal of your daily outdoor adventures. It’s a great way to stay motivated and see how much time you’re spending outside. Or, use your social media to share a daily One Hour Outside photo each day this month – use #OneHourOutside.
And Remember…
It doesn’t have to be way out there; it can be in your own town or garden.
Your time outside could be your job, your commute, or happen to fit in with your current daily routine.
It can be from your own front door, or your office door, the door of your car service centre when you’re getting new tyres, or any other door you happen to be behind.
You don’t need specialist equipment. (Although make sure you know when you do!)
It can be an adventure. But you don’t have to push your limits, crawl on your knees, or work so hard you’re aching the next day.
You just have to go out there and experience the outdoors in your own way.

Share Your One Hour Outside Journey
I’d love to hear about your experiences throughout the month-long challenge. Share your photos and stories on social media using #OneHourOutside. Tag me @Splodz as well, if you like.
Let’s use this as an opportunity to inspire each other to make the most of this beautiful season, by getting outside a little bit every day. Are you ready to take on the One Hour Outside Challenge? Grab your coat, lace up your shoes, and let’s make November 2024 an outdoorsy month to remember.
