Tai Chi

I was able to add another “completed” to my list of Things to Do today, thanks to the healthy week being run at work.

I went to a free 1.5 hour Tai Chi class at lunch time, one of those things you see on the telly and hear a lot about, and something I have wanted to have a go at.

I’m not the most graceful person.  I have no talent in dance or “pretty” movement.  I stomp rather than walk daintily.  So I have to say I was very worried about looking a fool at this Tai Chi thing.  But I was definitely up for giving it a go, and as someone who gets stressed and anxious very easily, was hoping that it would help me with that side of things.

And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  I didn’t need to be graceful, not really.  And I didn’t need to worry about looking a fool (even though I may have done, it didn’t matter!).

The class started with an explanation of what Tai Chi is all about, and that we would be doing a small part of Tai Chi Qi Gong (there are various spellings for that as I found out when I searched for it!).  I felt like we actually learnt quite a lot.

Exhale and Inhale

I’m not sure I could remember the sequence we learnt without the aid of the handout we were given, but I do hope I will always remember the principles I was taught today about posture and allowing energy to flow through my body.

I’m rather hoping that work decides to put on a regular lunchtime class as I’d love to go again and learn more.
